The popularity of Gami Swaga's anthemic house track, Babalaas, had him responding to the public demand for the making of a music video. The good news is that the video was released about a fortnight ago.

Sunday, 1 May is a day that the small community of Zava village, Giyani, will not forget as it was the very day that a group of artists and celebrities descended on the village to make the  Babalaas DVD.

Gami Swaga had won a Best Xitsonga House award for Babalaas, on which he featured Mozambican Xipanere in 2015. In this song, he had worked with Shapiro Moyo (bass guitar), and DJ Horn (saxophone).

“We decided to shoot the music video for Babalaas, because it is a timeless song that is preferred by all ages,” Gami Swaga said. “It's a song that people always ask a repeat for.”
He stated that the video shooting could have taken place in any big city in the country. “Instead of shooting the music video in Johannesburg, we decided not to limit our creativity and to bring it home to the villages, where my home community was heavily involved,” he said.

“A week earlier, we visited several schools to raise awareness about the music video and the kids were overwhelmed.” Gami Swaga sought professional support from award-winning radio personality DJ Brian (Munghana Lonene FM), and the Bharule Communications team. The other guests who took part in the shooting included Tirhani Mabasa (SABC 2), Cliff Moraba and Bizzo Buzzer (GCR FM), Soshangaan (Humba), Ishmo (IRP), DJ Noxzy, DJ Plug, and Funky Ritchie. “Kate Lukz modelling agency also brought all their beautiful models, who brought more life to our video,” he said.

The 33-year-old Gami Swaga had started doing music at the age of eight. After completing his matric, he studied sound engineering and audio vision for two years at Birnam Business College in Gauteng. “My fans can only look for the best in my video,” he said.

The project was chiefly sponsored by Zava Poultry Agricultural Primary Co-operative, Vuyeriwani group (Catering), and A-images. Gami Swaga can be phoned on 073 734 1334.
