Tonicbeatz sings to heal his broken heart

Read: 1739

Latany Perseverance Sigama, better known as Tonicbeatz, faced the loss of his mother at the tender age of three. The absence of a loving mother and the missed joys of spending quality time with her left a lasting scar on his heart. However, Tonicbeatz found solace in music, using it as a medium to share his longing with his audience.

The artist recently released his second album, titled “Mbilu YoKwasheyaho” (meaning “a broken heart”), which is poised to be another success in his music career.

Born in Hamagau outside Louis Trichardt, Tonicbeatz, also a skilled graphic designer, embarked on his music journey in 2016 at the age of 16 while a Grade 10 learner at Sinugani Secondary School. “I started off as a beat-maker with renowned guys in the game like K Master and King Cdo, whose equipment I was using at the time. After acquiring some experience, I left them and teamed up with Black Dee, with whom I worked until I got my own instruments. Even though my equipment was not that good, I persevered, and today I have some of the best equipment,” he said.

In 2019, he diversified and began producing his own music, leading to the release of his first album, “TonicVibration”, in 2021. Tonicbeatz has collaborated with various artists, producing hits with Onetime Muimbi, Alex B, Cykostic, and Madontse, among others.

His latest EP, “Mbilu YoKwasheyaho”, reflects his inner feelings and serves as a tribute to his late mother, Ms Elelwani Morine Sigama. Tonicbeatz shared that the EP was initially ready for release in August but was delayed because of logistical problems. The release was strategically timed for the festive season as a gift to his fans. The EP encapsulates his journey of healing through music, channelling the pain and emotions of the past few challenging years.

OneTime Madontse and Chiznuz collaborated on this latest project, recorded under his record label Tonicbeatz Entertainment. Tonicbeatz sees his music as a way to honour his mother and believes that she is proud of the work he is doing. Through his songs, he finds a therapeutic outlet and expresses the feelings he never had the chance to share with his late mother.
