Third Miss Mulima pageant coming up

On 23 December, the community of Hamulima outside Louis Trichardt will gather at the Hope of Glory Church for the Rubella Modelling Agency’s third annual Miss Mulima pageant.

Ms Marupene Moshakwa, the brains behind the contest, said the event had grown by leaps and bounds and had become a very important day on the village’s calendar. This year’s registrations opened on 1 November and will close on 15 December. Girls from the age of 12 years and older can enter.

“By the look of things, this year’s event promises to be the best yet. We have tightened our screws and improved on last year’s mistakes. Looking at the response and the number of contestants who have already entered, we will have a great event this year,” said Moshakwa. She added that the pageant dated to 22 December 2020 when the first competition was held. “Through this initiative, youths will learn to embrace their inner beauty, have high self-esteem and be more self-assured, know their worth, and become more confident,” she said.

Moshakwa further pointed out that, when she first started the event, she had no sponsors and used money from her own pocket. “I am very thankful to our traditional leader who, in 2020, saw beyond my vision and provided me with a venue at the traditional offices to host the event. We aim to see these girls shining at big national competitions in the future, but this will depend on the support we get from the community and the business sector. My wish is to also host a Miss Little Teen Mulima contest, but this will also depend on the availability of funds as it costs a lot to stage such an event,” Moshakwa said.
