Local Afro-pop and gospel singer Vhudihawe Mamphwe, popularly known as Vhudie, secured the Best Tshivenda Artist of the Year award at the 2023 South African Traditional Music Achievement Awards (SATMA) held in Durban on Friday, 15 December. The talented artist, born and raised in Mulenzhe village, gained recognition for his soulful voice and chart-topping single “Yoki Yoki”.
Vhudie received the award for his captivating single “Tshinakaho”, released just a year ago. The song resonated with audiences, earning him widespread popularity and a nomination in the Best Afro-Soul Song category.
Expressing his joy and surprise at the victory, Vhudie said, “Winning a SATMA Award changes any artist’s life in so many ways. It encourages me now to work even harder and to aim for the very best. It certifies my ability to create classic music in my indigenous language, representing my people.”
Grateful for the support from fans and those around him, Vhudie expressed his sincere gratitude. “Without my fans and the people around me, I don’t know how far I would have come. I will forever be grateful to everyone who supports me and prays for me day and night,” he said.
Regarding his future projects, Vhudie kept the details under wraps but hinted at exciting developments. “I've been working hard on several things that we will announce in due course - more great music and features, but more I cannot reveal for now. What I can say is that my fans can expect nothing but great music and hopefully many more awards,” he said.

"Vulani Mato Hu Kho Lwiwa," which is reggae artist Khuthadzo Innocent Tshirundu's latest single, is fast making waves on the local reggae scene.
