For most of 2023, Rhumba maestro Joseph Mbiza promised his fans a sizzling album. However, the year ended without its release. The long-awaited album has finally been released by the musician, better known as Zozo. Titled “Thavha Volume 18,” Zozo of Sengere Superbeat fame released the new album on Friday, 8 March.

The album follows the success of his previous release, “Volume 17 - Muvhango Africa”, which was released four years ago. The new album was recorded at Trutone Studio in Harare, Zimbabwe, by Jabulani Ndlovu and was mastered at Forest Studio in Durban by Dave Segal. Among the hits on this eight-track album are songs such as the title track “Thavha”, “Mufunwa Wanga”, and “Zimbabwe”. All the songs, following the Zozo tradition, are rich in messages that impact people's lives.

Zozo mentioned that he had taken his time to prepare his lyrics, hence the long wait for the new album. “I sing about topical issues. Issues that affect people's lives. The message comes to me, and I have to convey it to the people and sometimes offer solutions to people with life challenges. Over the years, through my music, I have assisted youths, the elderly, and many others facing life challenges. I will continue doing this for as long as I sing. I will never compromise the quality I have been consistent with over the years,” he said.

He added that piracy was one of the challenging problems that musicians faced. “I do not use home-made studios, and the big ones are very expensive. We end up losing lots of money as a result of piracy,” he said. According to Zozo, the new release aims to give courage to those who are on the verge of giving up when faced with problems. “Everyone faces challenges in life, though they may differ. Do not give up, as there is a solution for every challenge.”

Zozo hails from Chiredzi in Zimbabwe and arrived in Vhembe in 1994. He has lived in many places but built himself a home in Shayandima. He is married with five children. He made a name for himself with songs such as “Ele Wanga”, among others. His music is available on all digital platforms.
