Realives surround the tombstone of Lt-Col Teraka Munyai.

Dedicated policeman buried

 

Several members of the South African Police Services, members of the community and family attended the funeral of the late Lt Col Tereka Munyai (54), who recently passed away in the MediClinic in Polokwane after a short illness.

He was buried in the Masia cemetery on Saturday. After the service, held at his home, officers marched to the nearby cemetery, where he was buried.

Speaking during the funeral, Brig Stephinah Mahlangu said Munyai's death was a great loss to the Department of Safety and Security and the community as a whole. She described Munyai as a brave policeman, who was loyal to the government and to his fellow man.

She said that Munyai worked in a number of places around the country until when he was transferred to Polokwane, where he worked in the Provincial Supply Chain Unit until his death. According to her, he was a dedicated and loyal member of the SAPS, a community builder and the founder of the soccer team.

"Throughout his career, he had accumulated many awards, among them long-service awards. We urge all to emulate his good work and to follow in the footsteps of this dedicated officer,” said Mahlangu.

The chairperson of Popcru, Mr Theo Sekete, expressed his condolences to the Munyai family and said that Munyai's death was a great loss the the union and the community. Family spokesperson Mr Tshifhiwa Muthivhithivhi said that the family was shocked by his untimely death. “He was a pillar of strength to the family and the community,” Muthivhithivhi said.

Munyai is survived by eight children and his father.
