A 24-year-old student from the University of Limpopo, Thanyani Nemavhulani, is making inroads into the world of modelling and she has been selected as one of the finalists in the Face of the Globe competition.

Thanyani, a BSc student majoring in Environmental Science, told Limpopo Mirror that she was very excited about her achievements thus far. She looks forward to travelling to the UK, where the Face of the Globe finals will be held between 16 and 25 March 2017. The Face of the Globe is an annual, international beauty pageant hosted over one week. It takes place in the United Kingdom and Disneyland in Paris, France.

“I have got to raise some funds to enable me to travel to the UK and Paris next year,” she said. “Opportunities like these only come once in a lifetime and open many doors for one, so I can’t afford to miss out on this grand trip and pageant.” Thanyani appealed to people who are interested in community building and those who support the cause of uplifting youths to step forward and help her raise the necessary funds. “Small contribution will add to what I already have, and that will mean a lot to me.”

According to Thanyani, the Face of the Globe competition differs from many other pageants in that it focuses on philanthropy, fundraising and community work. “These are the things that make me love this pageant,” she said. “I really love helping people. I am very excited about being part of this pageant because I'll be also helping to raise money for Face of the Globe's affiliated charity, which is the Rainbow Child Foundation.”

Thanyani is a resident of Rabali village in the Nzhelele area. She has modelled for Foschini and other major clothing and cosmetics stores. “Pageants to me are more than just being the prettiest girl on stage; it is about making a difference,” she said. “I hope to be a voice, a role model and an ambassador to other girls, women and the younger generation.”

She needs to raise more than R30 000 to make it possible to travel abroad and support the cause. “Part of that amount will be directed towards my trip and some will be donated to the pocket of Rainbow Child Foundation,” she said.

Thanyani can be contacted on 071 277 5525.
