Extravaganza of fun for all in Musina

Thousands of fun lovers flooded the Musina show grounds last week to enjoy the Musina annual show extravaganza, which included exhibitions, career guidance, demonstrations by the army, a merry-go-round, poetry, theatre, music festivals, musangwe (traditional boxing), wrestling and traditional dances.

With the tight security, revellers had free movements in all corners of the show grounds, while at the same time enjoying the taste of the well-prepared food at the newly established food court.

When opening the show, the mayor of Musina, Cllr Mihloti Muhlope, said that the municipality had made sure that this year’s show was a great experience filled with fun, entertainment and memories. She said the municipality used the annual show as a platform to market its services.

“Musina has been declared a provincial growth point and this means that we must maximize the marketing of our town as a tourist destination and economic hub. Cabinet has given us the go-ahead to develop the special economic zone, which will result in thousands of jobs being created. This show plays a major role to prepare ourselves to become a city in the near future - hence we are marketing our town throughout the world.”

Apart from marketing the town, Muhlope said the annual show served as one of the mechanisms to create jobs and grow the local economy. “Local community members use the show to sell their products and in return get something to keep their family fires burning. Small business are given an opportunity to network with big companies that might end up appointing them as service providers.”

Bazooka Maphari, as a member of the local community choir, Thandanani, said that they were very thankful for the opportunity to showcase their talent. "We got a lot of exposure and since then, bookings for performances have been flooding in on a daily basis. The Musina annual show has really put us on the map.”

His sentiments were echoed by Mashudu Romani, who played an indigenous Tshivenda music instrument called Lugube. “Young people had an opportunity to learn more about indigenous music instruments and the show was a very good platform to showcase that. Performing at the Musina annual show was indeed a great honour for me.”

Some of the local and national artists who entertained revellers included Ringo, Big Nuz, Riky Rick, Lufuno Dagada, Lerato Kganyago, DJ Buti Sammy, Jonah Moyo, Jam Rockers, Jafter Sithole, Mella,  Malondolo, Mariana, Kwesta, Euphonik, Major League, Nasty C, Ramzeey, DJ Provoker, DJ Nipro, Tonny & Coffy, DJ Beekay, Black Cyza and Brain Q.
