Tshiombo Securities win Maanda Munzhedzi Cup

 

Tshiombo XI Securities were crowned the champions of the Maanda Munzhedzi Soccer Tournament at the Tshiombo Grounds last Sunday. Securities beat Makwarani Frelimo Boys 2-1 in the final to lift the trophy.

Tshiombo XI Securities’ way to the final went via Tshatshingo Potholes, whom they had beaten 2-0 in the quarter-final at the same venue on Saturday. They went further to crush Maraxwe Happy Boys 2-1 in the semi-final at the same venue earlier that day.

XI Securities were presented with R5,000, a floating trophy, a soccer kit, gold medals and a soccer ball during a ceremony at the grounds after the final game. Frelimo Boys were given R2,500, a soccer kit, silver medals and a soccer ball during the ceremony. Mutshenzheni Gorillas, who finished third, received R1,500, a soccer kit, bronze medals and a soccer ball. Gorillas beat Maraxwe Happy Boys 5-3 in their losers’ final. The winner was determined through penalty shootout. Happy Boys were given R1,500, a soccer kit and a soccer ball.

Teams booted out in the quarter-final round, Tshatshingo Potholes, Vhutalu Mountain Rangers, Mutale Vikings and Mianzwi Green Hornet, were each given a consolation prize of a soccer ball.
