Madombidzha resident (36) brutally stoned to death

The quiet village of Madombidzha is still reeling with shock, after a Zimbabwean man had allegedly stoned a 36-year-old man and run away last Saturday night.

Residents came from all corners of the village to see a dead man lying in a pool of blood at Rathidili-fhasi-ha-bada.

The deceased was identified as a well-known pot maker, Mr Tixaniso Thomas Manganyi, who originally came from Mozambique. The incident happened at about 18:00, when the suspect, who is still at large, was allegedly seen while hitting Manganyi on the head from behind with some bricks or stones.

“That man is heartless; he has no soul in his body,” said an elderly lady who came over and covered the deceased with a cloth.

The spokesperson for the Tshilwavhusiku police, Const Munyadziwa Marindi, confirmed that the police had opened a case of murder, following the incident. A community leader attached to the Sinthumule Traditional Council, Mr Alfios Mudzwari, condemned the brutal killing of the man.

Manganyi's employees, Ms Flora Tshiovhe and Mr Rooiba Tshivhenga, expressed their sadness and described the deceased as a hardworking man who loved all people. “Nobody will ever replace Thomas,” said Tshivhenga. “His death has saddened us and robbed us of a hard worker who didn't deserve to die such a brutal death.”

Manganyi is survived by his wife, Chrissie Mabena, and three children.
