Komatiland Northern District recently initiated a vegetable garden for the children of the Mulelu-Tshilata Community Crèche in Nzhelele. The new garden was initiated to eradicate malnutrition and influence the little ones to eat healthy. Last Friday, as part of Mandela Day activities, Safcol and Komatiland planted vegetables at the new garden. The community crèche is an initiative by Komatiland and currently has 34 children. During the Mandela Day celebrations at Musina, the mayor of the Musina municipality, Cllr Mihloti Ramoyada (left), presented food parcels to the Chauke family, whose house caught fire earlier during the week.

The Seed of Hope home-based care centre in Milaboni in the Tshikombani area donated blankets and food parcels to orphans and vulnerable families last Friday. The products were sponsored by the National lottery distribution trust fund. The chairperson of the board of the centre, Mr Kutame, said they chose to host the ceremony on 18 July to promote Madiba’s spirit and join with others to celebrate the day. Blind Gogo Mutshekwa Mavhunga (85) of Miluwani Extension 1 received food parcels and a toilet from the Raluswielo ANC Women’s League branch on Friday, as part of Mandela Day celebrations. “We have a role to play in identifying the needs of poor community members and we decided to do something for them,” said a member of the provincial executive committee of the Women’s League, Ms Nkhumeleni Lalumbe. As part of their campaign of giving 67 minutes to the community of Musina, members of the SANDF repaired the leaking roof at the Uniting Reformed Shelter in the border town.
Hillside Children's Ministry and Khoroni Casino Hotel visited Takalani Children’s Home in Siloam on Friday to celebrate international Mandela Day. The children’s ministry from Dzanani Township spent the whole day cleaning the orphanage centre and playing with the orphans. The children also prepared a cake to celebrate the day. Matodzi Maphari (18) from the ministry said she wanted to celebrate with the orphans to inspire them to integrate freely with other children, irrespective of their background. Khoroni Hotel joined with others and donated groceries to the value of R10 000 to observe their 67 minutes. Khoroni's marketing manager, Ms Yolande Bester, said that they chose to donate groceries because it will "feed these children for more than just 67 minutes” In the photograph are Mrs Rosina Tshikovhole, director of the home (left) and Ms Bester and some of the children.

In line with the legacy of political icon Nelson Mandela of seeing children not to suffer, the Thohoyandou-Shayandima branch of SAB Miller on handed hampers to mothers of the newly born babies at Tshilidzini Hospital on Friday. The hampers, which included almost all the baby necessities were handed over Sales Manager Jacob Leoto and Tshildizini CEO, Mr Mpho Mufamadi.
