Several local musicians were presented with awards during the Film, Arts, Music Entertainment (FAME) SA Awards at a glittering ceremony which took place at the University of Limpopo Turfloop Campus on Saturday.

The event was, however, dampend by the news of the tragic death the previous evening of local gospel star Mpho Regalo. He was awarded the prize in the Best Male category.

The 2011 South African Traditional Music Award winner, Jininka, once again proved to be a force to be reckoned with in the music fraternity.  This time, she has won the Best traditional Tshivenda artist category. After the event, she said that she would like to thank thousands of her fans who voted for her to win the award. “My heartfelt gratitude goes to all my fans who sacrificed their time, money and energy to vote for me. This means that they really care about my music, and I promise to give them good music as always.”

Her producer and the founder of Masana Records, Victor “Da Vic” Nemungadi, said he was not surprised by the judges’ announcement at the awards. "She is one of the best musicians I have ever worked with in my company. She takes her music career very seriously and she does everything wholeheartedly."
