Popular comedy on show in Thohoyandou

The popular Tshivenda comedy film, Tshovhilingana 10, will be on show locally next week Saturday, 23 December at the Thohoyandou Arts and Culture Centre.

According to the film’s executive director, Mutsharini Ratshibvumo, the film will be on show three times on Saturday, at 12:00; 14:30 and 17:00. Tickets for the shows are available at Computicket, Shoprite Checkers and U-Save for R50 per person per show.

Because of illegal copying of the film, Ratshibvumo says their latest offering, which started showing to the public in April this year, was not released on DVD. “Unlike previous titles, which were released on DVD format and sold directly to the public, Thovhilingana 10 is only available through bioscope/screening broadcasts. These screenings have already taken place in Thohoyandou, Pretoria and Tshiawelo. “More than 2 000 people attended these shows,” says Ratshibvumo. “We had to change our distribution strategy as a direct response to the threat of piracy.

“The bioscope strategy will hamper our ability to reach all our fans, but will at least ensure that the film can remain financially viable going into the future,” explains Ratshibvumo.
