Four local youths were selected to participate in a fully fledged arts programme, which will be hosted by the Sibikwa Arts Centre in Benoni, Gauteng.
The youths were selected as part of performance arts training and the selection was locally hosted by the youth-rebuilding project, Charismatic Rhythms, in partnership with Sibikwa Arts Centre. The programme is a nationally accredited short-skills course in dance and drama.
The auditions took place recently in Tshikota outside Louis Trichardt, where Elekanyani Netshakhuma, (21), Hester Chikota (18), Valelani Funyufunyu (20), and Andile Sibefu (19) were selected.
Valelani would like to better his choreographic skills and tap into his acting talent during the arts programme. Andile said that he was glad that he was one of the selected youths who would learn professional art skills at the Sibikwa Arts Centre.
“I believe that I am going to learn a lot and I am all ready to learn from the mentors and facilitators,” Andile said. “I have been looking forward to this kind of learning programme and exposure. We rarely have skills programmes of this nature, and so I thank Charismatic Rhythms for bringing a project of great value to us here in the rural areas.”
Another participant, Elekanyani Netshakhuma, said she was excited about the programme. “I still cannot believe I made it into the final selection list and that I was finally selected as a suitable youth to participate in the arts training programme,” she said. “I look forward to learning more on dance and drama and arts in general.”
