Nduvho Ramulifho – On a quest to establish herself in the art industry

For Nduvho Ramulifho, a young woman born in Thenzeni village, art is the one thing that has always given meaning to her life. Now residing at Makwarela in Thohoyandou, Nduvho had carved a niche for herself in the arts industry, where she is better known as Ndido the Woman.

“My love for art started during my teenage days as I went through magazines and watched television,” she said. “I picked up an interest in beautiful home interiors and I noticed the important role that art plays in portraying the elegant layout of any room. So, in 2012, I started playing around with paints and brushes on old wood until I trusted myself enough to invest in canvas.”

Nduvho specialises in abstract art or abstract painting, using acrylic and oil paints. She is a self-taught artist who also acknowledges and admires the other artists who came before her.

“I learnt some techniques just by observing other artists’ work,” she said. “I then figured out how to use different paints, brushes, and many other tools,” she explains.

“In art, I have created my own meaning of life within love, happiness, frustrations, depression, smile, and the colours and smell of flowers,” she said. “I create my own mood and save myself from many, and I hope that it puts my clients in the same mood.”

She revealed that she does not paint every day, so she considers herself a part-time artist. “You see, art can be like hunger or thirst; you don’t just eat and drink without hunger or thirst,” she stated.

She is overwhelmed by people's response to her work. She is in the good books of great local artists such as Avhashoni Mainganye and Takalani Ligege, who both have recommended her art.

“I am, however, looking forward to a ground-breaking solo exhibition organised by Vendart International to be held at The University of Venda Art Gallery in September this year,” she said. “My work can currently be viewed at the Thohoyandou Art Centre's Mini Gallery Stall number 13, where they are open Monday to Friday on 10:00-16:30, or at www.vendart.co.za.”
