Music promotions diva's life worth celebrating

Music promotions diva Rita Dee, also known as Denga Pearl Nephawe, recently celebrated another year in style with friends and colleagues in the music industry.

She said that she had woken up quite early. Everyone else was still asleep as they were tired from attending four shows the previous night.

“I thought my team had forgotten it was my birthday,” she said. "At 12:00 they decided to take me out for lunch. There were balloons and a couple of my friends, so I thought that was the actual venue. After lunch they said we were leaving.”

Once they had reached 2010 Makwatambani, a lot of friends, music lovers and colleagues were there, all of whom came to celebrate a life worth celebrating. “The set-up was cosy, which also meant that my friend Dr Mashudu Mbedzi, who had organised the party, knew his story,” she said. “I am glad that there are people who are all ready and keen to celebrate my life and contributions to the music industry.”

It was a night of lots of laughter and dance, and few speeches. She indicated that turning 29 years of age had showed her how people were starting to notice and appreciate her.

"My dream is to see the Limpopo music industry growing globally and our artists getting to be financially independent. We don’t have an active music industry in our region, so I’m praying by 2020 everything will be better."

Some of the artists and personas who graced the event included, among others, Makhadzi, King Kruizer, Percy Mukwevho, Jimmy Da Scratcher, Dj Flavor Dagada (Vhembe fm), Ngereza, and Trojan.

“People don’t believe me when I tell them my age because I started my company when I was very young,” she said. “I will be shooting the Makhadzi Tshanda vhuya Music video on 29 June 2018. I have also signed two more artists, King Kruizer and Trojan, who are currently working on their projects. I have merged with VCC Music studios, and we have launched a professional recording studio at Nzhelele Tshavhalovhedzi. So, watch the space!”
