A 21-year-old VenRap artist, HaaNdi YellowMah, was catapulted to greater fame when he was crowned Star of the Town during the SABC2's small-town Showville talent competition.
The competition was held at the Ferdie Beyers Hall in Louis Trichardt, between 19 and 21 July. Its aim is to unearth raw and weird but wonderful and unusual acts and performances from small-town South Africa.
HaaNdi YellowMah walked away with a grand prize of R10 000 and a trophy as the star of his town.
The Showville is an international-format show, and the first local season was broadcast in 2016, with the second season's format remaining the same. It is produced by Okuhle Productions, and the current talent coaches are Lorcia Cooper and Morena "The Squire" Sefatsa. Finalists were selected and coached by mentors in preparation for a big show performance in front of their families and the town's audience on Saturday evening.
HaaNdi YellowMah told Limpopo Mirror that he had developed a love for good music at an early age as he moved between his rural Nthabalala village and Gauteng. Born Khuliso Adolf Mudau, this young star is the kind of a youth who has fallen in love with the youth culture.
“As youths, we need to know what we want in life and never lose focus,” he says. “My musical journey has never been easy or smooth. Here, today, I've just made it and nothing is going to hold me down or pull me back – I am destined for greater things!”
For the top four finalists, the selection also included Anwyll Buys (18) from Louis Trichardt, whose dance moves mesmerised the coaches and audience. A Grade 12 pupil at Hoërskool Louis Trichardt, Anwyll said he loved art with his whole heart, and that dancing was one art form he could not part with. Idaishe Chando (17) of Ridgeway College was also a runner-up.
A pupil at Nemakonde High School, Remedy “Remlacity” Chitanda (19) of Louis Trichardt and Adonai Maagi (20) of Louis Trichardt formed the Band Tastic group, which did live music with a guitar.
The Showville talent competition has left a sense of motivation among the youths in the Makhado area.

Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho was born in 1984 in Madombidzha village, not far from Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province. After submitting articles for roughly a year for Limpopo Mirror's youth supplement, Makoya, he started writing for the main newspaper. With a successful roots-reggae album titled “Shandukani” to his name, Fhatuwani Richard Mashele is quickly becoming a household name in South African music. Better known as Jah Saint in music circles, Mashele believes that success does not come overnight and that one must work hard to earn it.
Khathutshelo Dzaga from Thohoyandou Block G, known as Khathu within music circles, has captivated her fans with her latest song, “Muvhonetsheli”. The song is a collaboration with Uber Black and features Racha Kill. The song is in Khathu’s familiar style, often described as a mixture of amapiano and Afro-beat.
“Music should help address societal issues that are affecting the community,” says house musician Meshack Nemakhavhani, better known as Mesh De Vocalist. The musician from Tshaulu Buluni has released a new album, titled “Mbilu I Khombo”.
Musician and actor Mpho Majiga is quickly emerging as the next king of disco on the South African music scene. The position became available after the passing of the late, self-styled king of disco, the legendary Dan Tshanda.
