This is the time of the year when Limpopo Province, with Vhembe District in particular, is abuzz with news and talk about the mega Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival.
The annual festival takes place on 8 September and it attracts thousands of music lovers from all corners of the country and neighbouring countries to a long, fun-filled day and night at the Nandoni Royal Gardens.
Some of the artists who will be mesmerising music lovers during the festival are Mazwale, Sir McKleker, Colbert Mukwevho, Makhadzi, and Zozo.
A sound-engineering student and twice a recipient of the South African Music Awards (SATMA 2016 and 2017), Mazwale has three albums under her belt, namely Ndi nne uno (2014), U sa pfa hu tunya mavhudzi (2015) and Vhuhadzi ndi nama ya thole (2017).
With seven albums, Makhadzi has created a persona for herself that has also earned her cult status. She rocked the SA music industry with a megatrack entitled Tshanda iya.
The name Sir McKleker is very popular, and mentioning his name brings to mind hits such as Rithelela and Nthengeleni. This man merely produced the two songs done by PhalaPhala FM's soapie actor Phathutshedzo Muthambi , aka Tshibulebule. However, he rocked the music industry to its foundation with the release of his hit song, Tapanyedza.
Colbert Mukwevho needs no introduction. He is the godfather of Tshivenda reggae music whose music has stood the test of the time. He is among the few musicians who insist on performing with a live band all the time.
Zozo, real name Joseph Mbidza, is inarguably considered the “King of Rumba music” as he is among the few musicians who popularised Chingondo music sung in Tshivenda. So far, he has recorded 15 albums, to critical acclaim.
The organiser of the Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival, Mr Shandu Nesengani, said that the festival arrangements and preparations had reached fruition and that they were expecting thousands of fun lovers and music lovers to attend the festival.

Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho was born in 1984 in Madombidzha village, not far from Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province. After submitting articles for roughly a year for Limpopo Mirror's youth supplement, Makoya, he started writing for the main newspaper. He is a prolific writer who published his first book, titled A Traumatic Revenge in 2011. It focusses on life on the street and how to survive amidst poverty. Musician and actor Mpho Majiga is quickly emerging as the next king of disco on the South African music scene. The position became available after the passing of the late, self-styled king of disco, the legendary Dan Tshanda.

Dakalo Nevhudzivhadi (21) from Masakona village was crowned as the winner of the Miss Makhado Easter All White beauty pageant during a glittering crowning ceremony held at the Makhado Show Grounds on 30 March.
