“In the process of creating my artistic pieces, I sometimes hit a strong brick wall and fall back flat, and then I lift up my eyes to the sky and get renewed inspiration.”
The 45-year-old Solly Kgamedi wants people recognise the importance of artistic products in society and the value that these products add to social life. “I want people to recognise talent when they see it,” he said. “I am always prepared to climb the mountains of life with stamina and fly to the unknown in the process of creating imaginative artistic pieces.”
Kgamedi specialises in paintings, figurines, portraits, postcards, collages, sign writing, photogenic art, and more that is creative. “With my art, I aim to take the world where it has never been before, and to see the future clearer than yesterday,” he said. “I take inspiration from all walks of life – a woman with a bottle of wine, a traveller carrying baggage, medicine and technology.”
Kgamedi's dream of establishing himself as an artist was first shattered when he had to drop out of art college some 19 years ago because of financial constraints. However, the flame kept burning inside his heart and he continued to create big paintings, illustrations, sculptures, and drawings, and he also wrote poetry.
In 2016, he told Limpopo Mirror that it was inevitable that he would one day make a comeback into the art industry and that he was prepared to make a name for himself. “Just from 2016 until now, I have managed to re-establish myself as an artist,” he said. “I am more creative than before. I have many people who place order for major works such as landscapes and collages.”
He completed his matric in 1994 at Litshovhu Secondary School. In 1997, Kgamedi was offered a scholarship to study art at the Johannesburg Art Foundation, where he majored in imaginative drawing and painting, using both paint and pencil as media.
“Often times, dreams speak to me creatively and I respond to those dreams in a creative manner,” he said. “I also spend most of my time in seclusion on the nearby mountain, being creative and working on some of my masterpieces. I love nature. And I am inspired by Miriam Makeba and Gerard Sekoto, for they also showed their love for natural beauty in their work.”

Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho was born in 1984 in Madombidzha village, not far from Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province. After submitting articles for roughly a year for Limpopo Mirror's youth supplement, Makoya, he started writing for the main newspaper. He is a prolific writer who published his first book, titled A Traumatic Revenge in 2011. It focusses on life on the street and how to survive amidst poverty. His second book titled The Violent Gestures of Life was published in 2014.

Musician and actor Mpho Majiga is quickly emerging as the next king of disco on the South African music scene. The position became available after the passing of the late, self-styled king of disco, the legendary Dan Tshanda.
