Local comedian Mr Majo Almost-Famous bagged the Africa gospel comedian of the year award at the Africa Gospel Awards Festival (AGAFEST) held at the Action Chapel Dome in Accra, Ghana, a fortnight ago.
He came up against famous comedians such as Multi B (South Africa), Kenny Blaq (Nigeria), Akpororo (Nigeria), Angel Gabriel (South Africa), Lepacious Bose (Nigeria), and Tebogo Ntlahane (South Africa).
After the event, he said that he was delighted and could not put into words or describe how he felt. “I thank God for winning this award. Without Him, I'm nothing."
He thanked his fans for voting for him. " I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for the love and support my fans gave me," he said.
When asked why he was so passionate about being a comedian, he said that people went through a lot in their lives and it gave him much pleasure and fulfilment when he got to make them laugh and forget about all their troubles. “That is what makes it all special. Making people laugh their pain away. Comedy is medicine for the soul, which heals a lot of illnesses that society is facing."
He draws inspiration from the likes of Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy, Red Fox and Richard Pryor and his goal is to have his own comedy talk show on one of the national broadcasting channels.
He was born Mukovhe Magwedze and hails from Makwarela.
According to the CEO of Big Events Ghana, Mr Prince McKay, the purpose of the awards is to recognize and celebrate talent and hardworking gospel acts, ministry, mission projects, outreach and evangelism, charity works and many more works related to spreading the gospel across Africa. "The awards also seek to unearth, encourage, motivate and inspire musicians and Christian activities, missions, and evangelism outfits to aspire to attaining excellence in their ministries and businesses, and to be of better service to the Kingdom of God," he added.

The 22-year-old Mbulaheni (Gary) Ridovhona has been passionate about journalism to the extent that he would buy himself a copy of weekly Univen students' newsletter, Our Voice. After reading, he would write stories about his rural village, Mamvuka, and submit them to the very newsletter for publication. His deep-rooted love for words and writing saw him register for a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies at the University of Venda, and joined the Limpopo Mirror team in February 2016 as a journalism intern.

During a Sunday sermon, Bishop Johannes Muofhe of the World Mission Church’s Fondwe branch prophesied that a musician, someone other than a member of the worship team, would emerge from the church.
With a successful roots-reggae album titled “Shandukani” to his name, Fhatuwani Richard Mashele is quickly becoming a household name in South African music. Better known as Jah Saint in music circles, Mashele believes that success does not come overnight and that one must work hard to earn it.
Khathutshelo Dzaga from Thohoyandou Block G, known as Khathu within music circles, has captivated her fans with her latest song, “Muvhonetsheli”. The song is a collaboration with Uber Black and features Racha Kill. The song is in Khathu’s familiar style, often described as a mixture of amapiano and Afro-beat.
“Music should help address societal issues that are affecting the community,” says house musician Meshack Nemakhavhani, better known as Mesh De Vocalist. The musician from Tshaulu Buluni has released a new album, titled “Mbilu I Khombo”.
