Rooijah makes poetry come alive

The talented reggae poet, Rogers “Rooijah” Tshipenga, has just released his latest studio album, entitled Muloro, which is quickly earning him respect among reggae music lovers.

In the tranquil village of Ha-Lambani, Rooijah started his music career, which saw him relocate to Gauteng for employment purposes. He was introduced to Masana Records, where he also recorded Muloro, which is his third reggae poetry album.

“Muloro was released just recently and it comprises ten songs or poems which all resound with the singer's tunes and rhythm,” he said.

His album boasts hits such as Muloro, Lion never die, Crime and corruption, Muvenda nga swili, Kha ntsumbedze lufuno, Black leopards, Corruption, and Li do da duvha. “It also features a tribute to the late Jahman Chiganja, which is entitled Rest in peace,” he said. “

Muloro was produced and engineered by Dj Davic at Masana Records.

Rooijah has cemented his name as a performer and recording artist of high note. He writes his original poems and blends them with instrumental sounds, where he majors in bass and rhythm. “I am known all over southern Africa for my deep voice of a poet who never compromises his style and talent,” he said. “I speak truths to power, praise my people and the soccer teams which I so love. I have just discovered my social position as a poet and singer, and it is that of nation builder.”

On this album, he features the award-winning poet, Vendaboy Poet, on the track Muvenda nga swili.

In 2014, he released a mega-album, Watchout School children, which sold over 60 000 copies in southern Africa. On Watchout School children, he collaborated with Humbulani Ramagwedzha. “I then recorded and released Criminal Law in 2016, where I collaborated with Eddie Luvhengo, Rendani Nevari and Radical Dreadz,” he said.

He added that Muloro was receiving massive airplay at national radio stations and that it was doing well in the market. “I have so far sold over 500 copies and I look forward to selling more and performing the very poems before the multitudes of fans here in Africa and overseas,” he said.
