Royal gospel and heritage festival launched

The eighth Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival, as well as the third gospel festival, was launched during a ceremony at News Café in the Thavhani Mall last Friday.

The gospel festival will be held on 13 September at the Nandoni Dam and the Royal Heritage Festival the following day at the same venue.

The programme manager of Phalaphala FM, Ms Sharon Ravele, said that Nandoni was the best place to be if one was a music lover. According to her, Venda is the heartbeat of the nation when it comes to music. “This is the perfect place to set yourself free, let loose to the biggest and best sounds from African acts across the board.”

Last year, about 25 000 people attended the event.

According to one of the organisers, Shandu Nesengani, the purpose of the heritage festival is to showcase the cultural diversity of Vhembe and Limpopo. “The festival provides the province with an opportunity to unify its citizens and the neighbouring countries, to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and promote tourism in the province,” he added.

Nesengani said they had improved on last year’s festival and that it would be all systems go this year. “Each year comes with its challenges, but we have improved two-fold in terms of parking, security and all other measures that will make revellers feel at home,” he said.

He said they were expecting more than 30 000 people at the event.

The third edition of the Royal Gospel Festival will include the multi-award-winning Dr Tumi, Rebecca Malope, Rapson Rambuwani, Rofhiwa Manyaga, Taki Ndou, Secret of Worship House, Tshepo Price, Palesa, Pastor Rudolph Mabasa, Phuluso Thenga, Voice Tsela Tsela, Lufuno Dagada, Worship House and many more.

The artists at the Royal Heritage Festival will include AKA, Colbert Mukwevho, Sho Madjozi, Makhadzi, Zero 12 Finest, King Monada, Lerato Kganyago, DJ Ganyani, Leonard Zhakatha, Zozo, Jack Bunny, DJ Laguga, Jones, Miss P, Joe Shirimani, Prince Kaybee, Rino, Vusi Nova, DJ Maphorisa and many more.
