Veteran musician Colbert Mukwevho will make his eighth appearance at the annual Phalaphala FM Royal Heritage Festival that is to take place at the Royal Gardens at Nandoni tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s festival will be preceded by a gospel music festival at the same venue Friday (today), for which many residents of Limpopo and its outskirts are gearing up.
The royal heritage festival and the gospel festival, which is taking place for the third year running, are two of the premier culture, music and lifestyle events in the province. The festival will host some of the biggest names in the South African talent pool, including some of the best artists that Limpopo has to offer.
Well-known gospel artists such as Rebecca Malope, Rofhiwa Manyaga, Worship House, Secret of Worship, and Rapson Rambuwani are among those to perform. The festival has become known as the prime place to be, often attracting more than 30 000 spectators. It has become part of life in Thohoyandou as it gives the audience a chance to experience some of their favourite musicians and celebrities.
On Saturday, music lovers will head to Nandoni for a festival to be headlined by, among others, AKA, jazz icon Ringo, Sho Majozi, Zero12 Finest, Zimbabwean star Leonard Zhakata, Makhadzi, Benny Mayengani, Zozo, Sengere, King Monada, Ms P, DJ Jones, and DJ Laguaga.
Speaking about his performance at the show, Mukwevho said that the show was very special to him. “I am very prepared for this event and I will rest before the big day. I will perform most of my music that has stood the test of time, and I will be dishing out many of my old songs, as well as some of the new favourites.”
According to one of the organisers, Shandu Nesengani, the festival provides the province with an opportunity to unify its citizens and the neighbouring countries to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and promote tourism in the province.

During a Sunday sermon, Bishop Johannes Muofhe of the World Mission Church’s Fondwe branch prophesied that a musician, someone other than a member of the worship team, would emerge from the church.
With a successful roots-reggae album titled “Shandukani” to his name, Fhatuwani Richard Mashele is quickly becoming a household name in South African music. Better known as Jah Saint in music circles, Mashele believes that success does not come overnight and that one must work hard to earn it.
Khathutshelo Dzaga from Thohoyandou Block G, known as Khathu within music circles, has captivated her fans with her latest song, “Muvhonetsheli”. The song is a collaboration with Uber Black and features Racha Kill. The song is in Khathu’s familiar style, often described as a mixture of amapiano and Afro-beat.
“Music should help address societal issues that are affecting the community,” says house musician Meshack Nemakhavhani, better known as Mesh De Vocalist. The musician from Tshaulu Buluni has released a new album, titled “Mbilu I Khombo”.
