When people say that humble beginnings and persistence bring about good results, they are talking about local artist HaaNdi YellowMah, who is indisputably the most potent missile in the VenRap genre.
The Prince of VenRap might soon reach the position of King of the genre, thanks to his quality lyrics and skilful voice. He recently mesmerised music lovers during a performance at Bush Valley Gardens, and when his fans started clamouring for an encore, HaaNdi YellowMah raised the microphone and happily belted out three more songs.
This young artist feels that the time is right for people to sample his latest music while the country is systematically strengthening its legs after this very trying time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This is the time we (artists) have been praying for, so that we may ascend stages again and soothe the hearts of our people with good music,” he said. “We are living in times where even the simplest of music or songs needs to say one thing or another, or else we are just screaming into the wind.”
He said that his new hit, entitled Yellow Yellow, was more personal in that he was showcasing his love for the colour yellow and what it meant to him. “Each one of us has got a colour that says something to us,” he said. “My colour is yellow, and it symbolises joy, happiness and excitement. So, I am inviting all people to come on stage and have some fun with me.”
He has so far endeared himself to the youngsters who follow VenRap and understand the genre for what it is – a form of entertainment and youth culture. “I believe that popularity is earned through hard work, for artists mostly work in the privacy that the studios offer them, but get to shine in the open world,” he said. “I have just managed to take my music to another level, since I started receiving massive airplay on Channel O during the lockdown.”

Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho was born in 1984 in Madombidzha village, not far from Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province. After submitting articles for roughly a year for Limpopo Mirror's youth supplement, Makoya, he started writing for the main newspaper. Musician and actor Mpho Majiga is quickly emerging as the next king of disco on the South African music scene. The position became available after the passing of the late, self-styled king of disco, the legendary Dan Tshanda.
