Old and dilapidated Shayandima Industrial Park to be revitalized

The old and dilapidated Shayandima Industrial Park outside Thohoyandou is set to be revitalized.

This was said by Premier Chupu Mathabatha during his State of the Province address in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature.

“We are now giving more meaning to our earlier commitment to revitalize our industrial parks.  We have set aside a budget of R150 million for revitalization of the Shayandima, Nkowankowa and Seshego industrial parks, and it is our firm belief this will go along a way towards transforming the economy of our province and create much-needed jobs,” he said.

He said that in an effort to intensify trade and promote investment into the province, they had begun to review the capacity of Limpopo Economic Development (LEDA) to deliver on its mandate, and this would include the strengthening of the project-management capacity in LEDA to be able to fast-track and ensure implementation of megaprojects in the province.

“We have taken the decision to re-establish the Limpopo Business Support Agency (LIBSA) as an independent entity from LEDA. LIBSA will deal with the whole enterprise-development programme, business development and financial support, and this will go a long way towards creating jobs through tailored small-business support programmes,” he added.

According Mathabatha, they had laid a solid foundation to roll out broadband infrastructure for the entire province. “The construction of a data centre with voice and data capabilities has been completed.  We have also connected about 66 sites, free wi-fi hotspots are available providing access for the benefit of students, SMMEs and the community at large,” he added.
