High flyer Livhuwani Madia, who needs asistance to attend a world conference.
A 17-year-old Mbilwi learner, Livhuwani Madia, is appealing for help for her to attend an international conference.
The Grade 12 learner from Shayandima township has bagged many prizes in regional and national science competitions. She has been selected as a delegate to represent South Africa during the Asia World Model United Nations conference in Indonesia, which takes place from 13 to 16 November this year.
Her attendance, however, will depend on the generosity of Good Samaritans as she does not have the finances to cover the trip.
About the conference, Madia said it had not been an easy road, but she had to come up with something that would impress the judges. "My entry was an essay based on a water-saving campaign, Save the Super Drop, aimed at teaching kids ways to save water. I also do an online magazine, Pink IT, focusing on youth education, safe sex, HIV/Aids and science and technology," she said.
She further indicated that she was also volunteering at SABC Teen Zone and assisting other learners where they meet at the Thohoyandou Library to do homework and have group discussions.
"I am very happy that my dream of visiting overseas and meeting with the best in different fields has finally arrived. This might elude me as I do not have the finances for this trip. I so wish that this will become a reality and I come back with more knowledge that I can come and share with my country. Anybody out there who can help, please help me realise my dream," she said.
