Tshikuyu residents talk about service delivery

Tshikuyu village in Ward 12 of Musina Municipality is more than 120km from the main municipal offices in Musina. When community members want service-delivery assistance, they must travel the long distance to access the municipal offices.

Things were totally different in the village last Tuesday when the leadership of Musina Municipality came to discuss service-delivery problems. The delegation from the municipality was led by the Speaker, Cllr Gilbert Netshisaulu, and a member of the executive committee, Cllr Jeremia Khunwana. The meeting took place at Headman Hyson Nngigideni Tshiwandalani’s residence.

The chairperson of the Tshikuyu royal council, Ms Annikie Ramufhi, said the local community was on cloud nine to receive the municipal leadership in their village. “Sometimes our community members travel the long distance to Musina just to get clarity on minor service-delivery issues. Today we are getting all those answers without spending a single cent on transport.”

Ramufhi’s sentiments were echoed by Vhakoma Vho-William Maluleke. He said jubilantly: “We are delighted to note that our village is also regarded as an integral part of the people of Musina. This kind of leadership will definitely take our community to new heights.”

Cllr Gilbert Netshisaulu said they had a programme to visit community members in all 12 wards of Musina Municipality to discuss service-delivery issues. “The wealth of the municipality is our people and it is important to be closer to our communities. This helps them to have a contribution in the decision-making processes of the municipality. Among others, communities here raised issues related to housing, water shortages and roads that need to be improved. Those that fall within the competency of the municipality will be attended to and those that are outside our mandate will be referred accordingly.”
