Family call for donations after losing everything in fire

A family from Matswale Extension 8 in Musina were left devastated after their house and belongings were destroyed in a fire. They are now appealing to members of the community to assist.

The four-room RDP house of Simon Seoketsi and his wife caught fire on Sunday afternoon. The unemployed couple had been living in this house since 2004.

Seoketsi’s wife was doing laundry outside the house when she smelled smoke. “I called to the neighbours for help when I noticed smoke coming out of the house,” she said. Community members were quickly on the scene, armed with water buckets and hosepipes, trying to extinguish the fire. The local fire brigade was also quick to respond, and the fire was put out.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, but the occupants suspect faulty electric wires. Currently, the couple is accommodated and fed by a neighbour.

The couple are appealing to the public for any kind of donation that may include food, blankets, clothes or furniture. Anyone wishing to help can contact Seoketsi at 076 194 6625.
