Man United in next round

Ngwenani Manchester United are through to the next round of the MTG and PIB KO Competition. They beat Lunungwi United 5-2 at the Makhuvha SK New Look grounds on Sunday.

The youthful Manchester were unstoppable in the first 20 minutes of the game, but their strikers failed to make use of their chances. They squandered their first scoring opportunity in the 9th minute. Nndwakhulu Mavhungu received a neat pass from Rembuluwani Marandela and ran straight to the keeper before unleashing a ground cutter from inside the box. The ball missed the target by inches, much to the disappointment of the team’s fans.

Manchester took the lead in the 24th minute. Thinavhuyo Khuvhe was brought down within the box and the referee did not hesitate to point at the white spot. Aluwani Tshivhase converted the penalty.

United approached the second half with more confidence, initiating some promising moves from the centre of the pitch. Manchester replaced Rembuluwani Marandela with Mpho Mukwevho as one of their many ways to neutralize the opponents. United found the equalizer four minutes before the final whistle. Rabelani Mulaudzi headed home after a scramble within the box to bring the full-time score to 1-1.

The winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out. Manchester United converted four of their chances via Mpho Mukwevho, Ronetshedza Nemavhola, Mulisa Mathada and Phathutshedzo Madzula while Lunungwi’s strikers scored only once from the spot.

Lavhelesani Nenngwekhulu of Lunungwi is focused on the ball.
