Royal Zulu through to Absa Premier league

It’s now official: Thanda Royal Zulu will be campaigning in the Absa Premiership Division when the activities for the new season start in the second week of August.

Royal Zulu were declared the NFD champions with three league matches remaining after beating the other league title contenders, Stellenbosch FC, 2-1 at the Umhlatuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay last Wednesday.

Realizing that their remaining three matches were a mere formality, Thanda used their reserve side in their league match against Cape Town All Stars last Sunday. They lost 0-1 to the team from the mother city.

The University of Pretoria were too good for Milano United and beat them 3-0 at the Absa Tuks Stadium in Pretoria. Chemain Peterson scored a brace, while the third one came via Thabo Moseki in the dying minutes of the game.

Amazulu were unstoppable when they brutally crushed Santos 3-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban. Siyabonga Nomvete and Ovidy Karuru scored in the first half, while Tapelo Nyongo was on target five minutes before the final whistle.

Jomo Cosmos lost 1-2 to Royal Eagles, despite the fact that they were playing in front of their home crowd. Cosmos were the first to find the net. Tebogo Tlouane beat the keeper with a ground cutter. Royal Eagles fought back through Ntandoyethu Ngubane and Cyril Ligwadi in the 67th and 84th minute respectively.

In their Mpumalanga derby at the Puma Rugby Stadium in Emalahleni, Witbank Spurs beat Mbombela United 3-1. Sabelo Nyembe opened the Spurs’ account while Joshua Souls scored a brace in the last half. Mbombela’s solitary goal came via Inky Masuku.

Tsepo Mabua and Mame Niang scored for Stellenbosch FC when they beat Real Kings 2-0 at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. FC Cape Town beat Mthatha Bucks 1-0 at the NNK Rugby Stadium in Cape Town.
