Magezi finally relegated

While one of the Limpopo-based NFD clubs, Magezi FC, are in mourning following their relegation to the lower division, Black Leopards are gearing up for the promotional playoffs.

Although a mere draw against Mbombela United at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit last Sunday would have been enough to save them from the relegation axe, Magezi went down 3-0.

Mbombela’s goals came via Clifford Mulenga (2) and Siyabonga Madikane. Magezi finished their league programme in the second-last position on the log with 31 points, one behind Milano United. Magezi will be accompanied by Santos on their way to the ABC Motsepe League. Santos lost 0-1 to Stellenbosch FC at the Athlone Stadium.

Stellenbosch FC will join Black Leopards in the promotional play-offs. Mame Niang scored the goal that earned Stellenbosch FC three vital points. Amazulu, who were in the race for promotion for the whole season, missed a promotional play-off place by a whisker. This follows their 0-1 defeat at the hands of FC Cape Town at the NNK Rugby Stadium.

The goal that denied Amazulu a place in the promotional playoffs came via Lucky Mathonsi in the 24th minute. Although their promotion to the Absa Premiership Division was confirmed three weeks ago, Thanda Royal Zulu did not leave anything to chance in their game against Real Kings, whom they beat 2-1 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Durban.

Mxolisi Machupu, Denzil Haoseb and Tebogo Makobela scored for Jomo Cosmos when they crushed University of Pretoria 3-0 at the Tsakane Stadium in Johannesburg. Royal Eagles beat Witbank Spurs 3-1 at the Puma Rugby Stadium in Emalahleni. Philani Cele, Mxolisi Nkewana and Isaac Chansa scored for Eagles, while Spurs fought back through Joshua Souls.
