Haggai finish in third position in Danone cup

The Thohoyandou based Haggai Combined School ended in the third position in the Danone U/12 national finals that took place in Boksburg last weekend.

It was the first time that Haggai participated in the event. Last year Benny’s Care Academy won the event and represented South Africa in the Danone U/12 World Cup held in France.

Haggai beat Mamitlwa Primary 1-0 and then drew their matches against Mophela (2-2), Phaphama (1-1) and Idas Valley (1-1).

Mophela Primary School from Kwazulu Natal won the event when they beat Sekusile Primary from Mpumalanga. Mophela will represent South Africa in the World Cup in August.

The coach of Haggai, Mr Justice Matloga, said his boys played well in the matches, but were over-excited in the semi-finals. He is proud that they didn’t lose a match in the contest.

The president of SAFA Limpopo, Mr Hulisani Mabasa, congratulated the team and emphasised the importance of sports in the lives of young people. He said that sports provide many positive opportunities for school children. “Good sportsmanship provides guidelines that can be used in life. It also teaches children to function in a competitive society.”
