NFD: Good start for Lidoda Duvha

Unlike in the previous seasons, where they commenced their league programme on a struggling note, Black Leopards collected full points in their opening league match for the current season by beating Mbombela United 1-0 in their NFD league match at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit last Saturday.

The goal that earned Lidoda Duvha their first three league points of the season came via Phathutshedzo Nange, four minutes before the half-time whistle.

Jomo Cosmos started the new season on a sad note, following their 0-1 defeat at the hands of Highlands Park at the Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa. It took Highlands Park only six minutes to score the all-important goal. Mothobi Mvala received a brilliant pass from Eric Motsoeneng just outside the box and unleashed a powerful shot. The ball hit the crossbar and bounced across the goal line. Cosmos created numerous scoring chances in the last half, but their strikers were unlucky.

In their Kwazulu Natal derby at the Umhlatuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay on Sunday, Richards Bay FC shared the spoils with Real Kings 1-1.

Witbank Spurs used their home-ground advantage to collect the maximum points at the expense of Super Eagles at the Puma Rugby Stadium in eMalahleni. Super Eagles lost 1-2. Sabelo Nyembe scored the Spurs’ opening goal in the 11th minute. The home side increased the margin two minutes into the last half via Bongane Mathabela.

Super Eagles’ solitary goal came via Lawrence Dlamini late in the game.

The newly promoted Uthongathi FC played to a 1-1 draw with Royal Eagles at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban. University of Pretoria shared the spoils with Mthatha Bucks at the Absa Tuks Stadium in Pretoria. Mpho Erasmus scored for Bucks in the 54th minute, while Tuks retaliated through Tebogo Reed in the 86th minute.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila lost 0-1 to Cape Town All Stars at the Thohoyandou Stadium.
