Red lights for Vhembe clubs

If the current league log for the Limpopo Stream of the ABC Motsepe League were the final one, two of the four Vhembe-district-based clubs, Joe Maweja and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, would be facing the relegation axe.

Joe Maweja are languishing at the bottom of the log and are still to deposit a point into their league account after six outings. The struggling Maweja have scored only one goal and conceded 15 to date.

Maweja were supposed to have played against Molemole Academy at the Polokwane Rugby Fields last Saturday, but for unknown reasons at this stage, Maweja did not honour the fixture. The match was declared a walk-over for Academy.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila too are still to win a league match to date and have one point in hand.

The other Vhembe-based side, Mikhado FC, are perched in the third last position on the log. Mikhado, who are the ABC Motsepe rookies, have won only one of the six matches they have played so far.

To prove that they are serious about moving out of the relegation zone, Mikhado signed three experienced players on Monday. The former Bafana Bafana striker, Lerato Chabangu, the former Black Leopards’ midfielder, Christopher “Matari” Netshidzivhe, and the former Dynamos goalkeeper, Amon Phophi, are likely to be in the team’s starting 11 when Mikhado host Madridtas at the Rabali Stadium on Sunday.

The only Vhembe-based side who look serious about promotion is Madridtas FC. Madridtas are lying in the seventh position on the log with 10 points. They won three, lost two and drew one of the six matches they have played to date.

Ndengeza FC are currently leading the pack with 17 points accumulated from seven outings. Ndengeza are still to lose a league match to date.
