Liverpool to strong for Eagles

Zamenkomste Liverpool beat Maebane Young Eagles 3-1 in the Get to Gether tournament at Makhitha on Sunday.

Eagles missed two clear chances in the first 10 minutes. Chungu Sithelele shot wide from close range after receiving a neat pass from Masala Ratshibaya in the 14thminute. Moses Mabeba caused another disappointment three minutes later, when he released aimlessly from outside the box.

Liverpool came close to scoring again in the 34th minute. Hulisani Mbodi held onto the ball for too long within the Eagles’ danger area, until he lost possession. No goals were scored in the first half.

Almost as if they were going to give their opponents a free soccer lesson in the second half, United were the first to find the net. It took them 56 minutes to get the vuvuzhelas blowing. Nkhumeleni “Whistle” Makovhololo forced his way through the defence of Eagles and showed the keeper, Mathilas Marakalala, the wrong way.

The goal was a wake-up call for Liverpool’s midfielders. They created several dangerous moves from the middle of the park, with Eagles chasing the action. Liverpool found the second goal in the 66th minute when Itani ”Dinah” Dzhabuli beat the keeper with a volley, following a brilliant pass from Litshani Mamphweli.

Humbulani Managa of Eagles reduced the margin in the 70th minute. His long-range ground cutter left the keeper, Khongelani Baloyi, flat-footed.

Both sides effected two changes in their initial line-up. The replacements worked against Liverpoool as they played the last stanza with their backs against the wall. Nditsheni “Balo” Musekwa scored his team's third goal after he received a beautiful pass from Mpho Khantshi.

Yende Munyadziwa of Eagles and Mpho Khantshi are ready to attack the ball.
