Registration opens for Taki’s Challenge

 

The registration window for the annual Taki’s Challenge opened this week. Just like in the previous 11 years, 32 teams will take part in this year’s tournament.

According to one of the organizers of the tournament, Mr Takalani Prince Rabali, the first-round matches will be played at the open grounds over the second weekend of December.

The last 16 matches will be staged at the Rabali Stadium on 23, 24 and 26 December, while the final is scheduled to take place at the same venue on Sunday, December 31.

The registration fee for the tournament is R500. According to Rabali, this year’s champions will receive R15 000, a floating trophy and a soccer kit.

According to the rules of the tournament, the champions must donate R2 000 of their cash prize to a charity organization. The runners-up will receive R8 000 and a soccer kit. Teams that will finish in the third and fourth places will each receive R3 500. The teams booted out of the tournament in the quarterfinal stage will each take home R1500.

Chilly Boys FC are the defending champions. The beat Johannesburg Pull Together in the final last year.
