Gogo team received donation

A well-known sport personality, Mr Samuel Maduwa, recently donated a soccer kit and ball to an elderly women's soccer team, Tshidzani Old Age.

The gogos could not believe their eyes when they received the new kit and a soccer ball. Maduwa said it touched his heart after learning that the ladies were playing soccer without proper sports attire. He said the women were a true example of women empowerment, because they were proving that there was no longer a sporting code for a certain gender.

“You are keeping your bodies healthy and you must remember that a healthy body harbours a healthy mind. Let’s do away with the idea that elders are supposed to sit at home, doing nothing until sunset," he added. He encouraged the elderly to keep up their active lifestyles. "You are a very good example to your children and grandchildren and we hope that they will follow in your footsteps."

The team was established in 2010. The organization currently has more than 20 ladies attached to it. The team captain, Ms Kutama Ndou, said the team was established with the aim of helping them to relieve stress and keep them healthy.

"Exercise is very important for the elderly who spend most of their time sitting down, not doing anything," she said. “We love soccer and that is why we kept on playing, even though we didn’t have proper clothing.”
