Darkies and High Aims in MTG clash.

The quarterfinal and semifinal matches for the MTG Makonde Annual Soccer Tournament matches will be played at the Makonde Home Defenders grounds this weekend. The quarterfinal matches will be played tomorrow (Saturday), while the semis will be staged on Sunday.

The first quarterfinal match will be between Tshilulu Young Tigers and Matangari Rising Stars. Matangari beat Khubvi Feedas All Stars 1-0 in their last-16 stage match of the tournament. The game is scheduled to kick off at 10:00.

Makonde FC and Musasenda Big V will meet in the next match soon afterwards. Makonde’s way to the quarterfinal stage went via Khubvi Peace Makers, whom they narrowly beat 1-0 in their opening match.

Khubvi Dangerous Darkies will lock horns with Matangari High Aims in what promises to be a humdinger, scheduled to start at 14:00. Shadani Dangerous Scorpions and Mudaswali United Brothers will wrap up the day’s programme.

According to the chairman of the organising committee, Mr Madambini Maswime, the toss for the semifinal matches will be conducted at the grounds after the last game tomorrow afternoon.

The champions will take home a cash prize of R4 500 and a soccer kit. The runners-up will be presented with a cash prize of R2 500 and a soccer kit. The third- and fourth-placed teams will receive cash prizes amounting to R1 550 and R1 150 respectively. Teams booted out of the tournament in the quarterfinal stage will each take home R700.

The final will be staged at the same venue on Tuesday, December 26. Sixteen teams from Makonde and the surrounding areas are taking part in this year’s edition of the annual tournament.
