Leopards maul Royal Eagles

Black Leopards enhanced their chances of partaking in the promotional playoffs at the end of the season by beating Royal Eagles 1-0 in their NFD League match at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday.

Lidoda Duvha created numerous scoring chances in the first 20 minutes, but their strikers were unlucky at the goal finish. Mwape Musonda, the team’s top goal scorer, unleashed aimlessly from close range, following a pre-cooked pass from Karabo Tshepe. The ball missed the goal mouth by inches.

Meshack Maphangule forced his way through the defence of Eagles and miskicked the ball inside the box.

The goal through which the home side deposited full points into their league account came in the 30th minute. Their overlapping right back, Marks Munyai, was brought down within the box. That prompted the referee, Mr Chris Harrison, to award them a penalty. Mwape Musonda beat the keeper with a ground cutter.

The Kwazulu-Natal side took the game to Leopards in the last half, forcing Lidoda Duvha to play defensive football and rely on counter-attacks.

They introduced Thembi Nevhulamba at the expense of Mwape Musonda in the 59th minute. Phathutshedzo Nange of Leopards sustained a knee injury and he was replaced with Isaac Masia. Sabata Mosebo of Royal Eagles was booked for obstructing Thembi Nevhulamba late in the game.
