Stars shine over Disco Five

Phungo All Stars showed Shayandima no respect when they narrowly beat them 1-0 in their MMK Administrators League match at the Shayandima Tshisimani grounds on Sunday.

Disco Five displayed entertaining football in the first 20 minutes of the game, but it was difficult for them to find their way through the Stars’ defence. The Stars nearly spoiled a beautiful game by demonstrating their rough skills in the opening minutes, but the referee normalized the situation by flashing several yellow cards.

The first Stars player to go into the referee’s book was Azwipfali Thangavhuelelo. He tackled Masala Tsanwani the rough way. Khodani Raphunga of Stars was also booked for a dangerous tackle in the 28th minute.

The Stars effected the first change to their starting 11 in the 38th minute. They introduced Mabusa Shongwane for Murendeni Munwai three minutes before the referee blew the half-time whistle. Disco Five continued to dictate terms in the middle of the park in the last half, but the Stars’ defenders refused to allow any stranger within their danger area.

Disco Five lost cohesion over time. At that stage, the Stars from Itsani village were gaining momentum. The visitors squandered two clear scoring chances in a row. Phindulo Ravuku suffered the pain of watching his close-range half volley going a little wide. Phathusthedzo Nengovhela had his chance moments thereafter. He received a beautiful pass from Geoffrey Mulaudzi and hesitated for far too long to unleash at the edge of the box until he lost possession.

The goal that earned Stars three points came in the 78th minute. They were awarded a free kick in the 25-meter area. Mbidzo Matamela beat the keeper with a volley from the free kick. Disco Five tried hard in their search for the equalizer, but it was not their day.
