A soccer legend and former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Doctor “16V” Khumalo, in partnership with businessman Ratshilumela Vumbi, donated a full soccer kit and soccer balls to an MMK Administrators club, Sangoma Black Robbers, on Sunday.

The event took place at Sangoma’s home ground at Sendedza Tshavhalovhedzi Nzhelele. Khumalo is the technical advisor of the Limpopo-based Baroka FC.

During the handover, Khumalo motivated the players to set their own goals and to know what they want as players. “Some of the players won’t make it to the Premier Soccer League or National First Division, but as individuals, if you have goals and work hard towards achieving your goals and dreams, you will make it,” he said.

Khumalo said it was also part of his plans to visit rural areas and scout for players with talent. “This province has proven so many times that there is so much talent here. Look at Tower (Eric Mothoho). Who would ever have thought that he will be one of the best players in the country? He started in Vhembe and then he went to Bloemfontein Celtic, Kaizer Chiefs and the national team. This proves that this province has a lot of talent.”

Vumbi said that it pained him when he was at one of the team's games and saw them playing with the soccer kit that he and other team mates had worn back in 2006. “That was when I decided to help my home team and reached out to Doctor Khumulo to come and motivate them.”

Ratshilumela further stated that when young boys were playing soccer, it kept them busy and prevented them from participating in criminal activities. The donation came as a much-needed motivation for the players, as they went on to defeat their rivals, Nzhelele Home Sweepers, 4-2 later on in the day.
