Defenders hammer Stars

Mpheni Home Defenders humiliated the log leaders in Stream E of the Safa Vhembe MMK Administrators League, Makhitha Oscar Stars, at the Mpheni grounds on Sunday.

Defenders won 4-0. Defenders managed to match Stars pound for pound in the early minutes and they were leading 1-0 at half time. Their opening goal came in the 23rd minute when their kingpin, Shaft Mafunisa, forced his way through the defence of Stars and beat the keeper with a ground cutter.

Stars did not stop fighting despite conceding the goal. They created numerous scoring opportunities, but their strikers let them down by shooting aimlessly from close range.

Defenders increased the margin when Emmanuel Mphephu sent the keeper the wrong way with a close-range half volley after he beat the off-side trap. They put matters beyond doubt in the 56th minute. Hector Mulaudzi hit the back of the net with a ground cutter after beating the offside trap.

Stars introduced Itanai Selota, Thabo Mongala and Mpho Ndou for Lucky Funyufunyu, Sydney Luvhengo and Mpho Lithelo. Their replacement did not change any complexion of the match as Defenders were still playing good football in all departments.

Stars started to display rough skills towards the end of the game. The referee normalized the situation by giving Laymond Muleya and Itani Selota yellow cards. Rabelani Ncube scored his team’s fourth goal.
