Sheshe Bush Bucks are still in a celebratory mood after winning the MTG KO competition at the Makonde Home Defenders grounds last Saturday. Bucks beat Mashishi Young Tigers 2-0 in the final to lift the trophy.

Bucks received R20 000, a floating trophy, soccer kit and gold medals during the ceremony held at the grounds shortly after the final whistle.

Mashishi Young Tigers became R10 000 richer and received silver medals and a soccer kit. The third-placed side, Mulindathavha Ocean Swallows, received R7 500, bronze medals and a soccer kit during the ceremony.

Ocean Swallows beat Lurangwe the Angel 4-2 in their losers’ final match, which was played at the same ground earlier that day. Lurangwe received R5 000 and a soccer kit.

The teams that lost in the quarterfinal stage, Dzwerani United Brothers, Tshilavulu Elite, Lufule Arsenal and Tshaulu Sports Academy, received R2 000 each.

During the ceremony, the general manager of MTG Funerals, Mr Shudu Magwabeni, stated that they were impressed with the way the tournament had been organized this year. He added that his company will continue to sponsor the competition in coming years.

According to him, the sponsorship amount will also increase over time, depending on the financial position of the company.

A total of 164 teams, who are all affiliates of the Thulamela Local Football Association, took part in this year’s competition. The chairman of Black Leopards FC, Mr David Thidiela, was among the dignitaries who attended the ceremony.
