Ocean Swallows fly over The Angel

In their MTG KO competition losers’ final match at the Makonde Home Defenders grounds on Saturday, Mulindathavha Ocean Swallows rose to the occasion and beat Lurangwe the Angel 4-2 to finish the competition in third position.

The game was characterized by wasted scoring opportunities, even though no goal was seen during the regulation time. The Angel realized that it was not their day when they missed two clear scoring chances within a short space of time. Oriel Mulovhedzi went loose from the left corner and dished a square pass into the box. As if his teammates were hypnotized, they watched as the ball went past the goal mouth to the other corner.

Emmanuel Mukwevho could not believe his eyes moments thereafter. He unleashed a half volley from the edge of the box. The ball hit the woodwork and landed outside the field of play for a goal kick.

Ocean Swallows were the first to effect change to their starting line-up. They replaced Pfunzo Maposa with Phulufhedziso Mukundamago towards the end of the first half.

Swallows rectified their mistakes and started to play attacking football in the last half. The Angel’s keeper, Lufuno Mundalamo, was the busiest player in the last half. He executed numerous brilliant saves in the first 20 minutes of the last half.

The winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out as the scoreboard was still blank at the end of the regulation time. Swallows converted four via Oriphulusa Ramukumba, Phulufhedziso Mukundamago, Tshilivhuwani Randima and Emmanuel Muthego, while The Angel scored only two from the penalty spot.
