Bruce Maphiri Soccer Festival starts

 

The opening matches of the Bruce Maphiri Soccer Festival were played at the Maholoni grounds in the Makuya area over the past weekend. Sixteen teams from Makuya and the surrounding areas are affiliated to the tournament.

The results of the first-round matches are: are: Musunda FC 2, Tshidzini FC 0; Makuya Try Again 5, Lukau FC 4; Ficus FC 3, Gondeni Big Cat 2; Sambandou United Professionals 2, Lamvi FC 1; Maholoni Stone Breakers 8, Mazhakandila FC 7; Berea FC 3, Guyuni FC 1; Phaphama FC 6, Tshaulu Soccer Academy 5 and Rambuda Young Fighters 2, Tshambuka FC 0.

The quarter-final matches will be played at the same venue tomorrow, while the semi-final and final will be played on Sunday.

The quarterfinal fixtures are: Sambandou United Professionals vs Lukau FC (09:00), Musunda FC vs Rambuda Young Fighters (11:00), Phaphama FC vs Berea FC (13:00) and Maholoni Stone Breakers vs Ficus FC (15:00). The champions will take home R6 000, soccer kit, a floating trophy and gold medals.

The runners-up will receive R4 000, while the third- and fourth-placed teams will receive R2 500 and R1 500 respectively. The teams booted out of the tournament in the quarter-final stage will each receive R1 000, while the remaining teams will receive a consolation prize of R300 each.
