Hard-earned victory for Tshiulungoma FC

Tshiulungoma FC beat Vondwe Dangerous Tigers 6-5 in their Thulamela Mayoral Cup Tournament match at the Makhuvha Stadium on Sunday. The game was characterized by wasted scoring opportunities.

Zwivhuya Maphiri, the keeper of Dangerous, was a marvel to watch in the first 30 minutes of the game. He denied Tshiulungoma several sure goals. Ngangoho Khethani tried his luck with a long-range half volley. Maphiri braved the shot and palmed the ball away for a corner kick.

As if that was not good enough to impress the team’s fans, Maphiri was in the thick of things again in the 18th minute. This time around he denied Lufuno Mudau what everybody thought was a sure goal.

Both sides effected two changes to their starting lineups in the last half. Tshiulungoma replaced Livhuwani Makondelela and Mueletshedzi Mudau with Fhatuwani Mphohoni and Ompha Khakhu, while Tigers introduced Rudzani Matambele and Khodani Makhani for Elekanyani Munandi Zwonaka Mmbengeni respectively.

No goal was scored during the regulation time and the teams went straight to a penalty shootout to determine the winner. Tshiulugoma scored six from the white spot through Ngangoho Khethani, Lufuno Mudau, Ndivhuwo Khathula, Fhatuwani Mphohoni, Thabo Masemola and Masala Goma, while Tigers converted five.
