Victory for Manchester United

Ngwenani Manchester United secured a place in the next round of the MTG KO competition by beating Vondo Vibes 2-0 at the Khubvi Benjies grounds on Sunday.

The game was lukewarm in the first 20 minutes as the teams seemed to be studying each other’s strong and weak points.

It took Vibes 25 minutes to realize that it was not their day. Their fast forward, Thendo Nevondo, had a great scoring chance after receiving a neat pass Philemon Lukoto. Nevondo unleashed a powerful half volley from the 20-meter area. Rembuluwani Marandela, the keeper of Manchester United, braved the shot and palmed the ball away for a corner kick.

Realizing that their midfielder, Aluwani Tshivhase, was out of form, Manchester United replaced him with Tanganedzani Munzelele toward the end of the first half.

Vibes took the game to Chester in the first 10 minutes of the last half, but their fighting spirit faded after they failed to convert two clear scoring chances in quick succession. Ntsedzeni Lukoto, their bulldozer striker, received a neat pass from Tshifhiwa Libago and tried his luck with a ground cutter. The ball missed the target by inches.

Shortly thereafter, Patrick Maanda unleashed a half volley from the 22-meter area and suffered the pain of watching the ball going wide. The two incidents seemed to have been a wakeup call to the players of Manchester.

They created numerous promising moves from behind. Their opening goal came in the 67th minute. Emmanuel Mulaudzi beat the keeper with a header, following a square pass from Vongani Khosa. The Vibes’ defenders started to panic after Chester’s opening goal. They abandoned their positions and thereby created an opening at the back. Nndwakhulu Mavhungu scored the second goal in the dying minutes of the game.
