Gauteng PSL legend too strong for Limpopo

The Gauteng XI beat the Limpopo XI 3-0 in a match in honour of the late Minister Collins Chabane at the Saselamani Stadium on Sunday.

The Gauteng XI went home with R20 000 and a trophy for their victory. Their team was comprised of stars such as Mathew Booth, Cyril Nzama, Joseph “Duku Duku” Makhanya, Steve Lekoelea and Albert Dihna. The Limpopo players included Alex Bapela, Christopher Netshidzivhe, Tonic Chabalala, Ishmael Maluleke, Elias Ngwepe, Selby Chauke, Andrew Rabutla and Sydney Moshikaro.

A former Orlando Pirates captain, Lucky Lekgwathi, said this type of game was a great way to remember the former minister, especially because it was played in his home area. He urged football followers in the Malamulele area and surrounding areas to support the match annually.

“For me this is a special occasion; I’m privileged to be part of it. I’m glad it is finally happening, said Lekgwathi. “I won’t say it is long overdue, as everything happens in its own time and I’m happy that the time is here to honour Chabane.”

The goal scorers for Gauteng XI were Joseph “Duku Duku” Makhanya, Cyril Nzama and Thapelo Liau.
