Vikings and Lions in MTG semis

The semi-final matches for the MTG KO competition will be staged at the Khubvi Benjies grounds on Sunday. Tshaulu Hungry Lions, Mutale Vikings, Fundudzi United Brothers and Mukula Young Brothers secured places in the semi-final stage of the prestigious local competition.

The opening match will be between Mukula Young Brothers and Fundudzi United Brothers. Young Brothers beat Zwaloni FC 3-0 at the same venue last Sunday to secure a place in the semi-final stage.

Fundudzi United Brothers’ way to the semis went via Tshikovha Arsenal, whom they beat 3-2 in their quarter-final match at the same venue last Sunday. Fundudzi’s victory over Arsenal did not come easily, as the winner was determined through penalty shootout.

A quick glance at the United Brothers’ performance against Tshikovha Arsenal last weekend shows that Young Brothers will be lucky if, by chance, they manage to scrape through to the final. Although they could not seal the game during regulation time, United Brothers were by far the better side when it came to ball possession.

Young Brothers must keep a close eye on Muhuliseni Rasirubu, Mphedziseni Nekokwane and Thabelo Ntshauba or else they will not know what will have hit them at the end of the game. The game is scheduled to start at 13:00.

The day’s programme will be wrapped up by the match between Mutale Vikings and Tshaulu Hungry Lions. Hungry Lions beat Lamvi FC 6-5, while Vikings crushed Khubvi Peace Makers 4-1 in their quarter-final match last weekend.

Mbofholowo Tshipate, Agreement Baloyi and Maanda Netshamahala, the Lions’ scoring machines, will give the Vikings’ defence a tough time if not well contained. This one is expected to start at 15:00.

The final will be played on Sunday, 16 June, at a venue still to be announced.
