Registration opens for Makuya Soccer Tournament

 

Teams that are interested in registering for the annual Makuya Soccer Tournament have until next Wednesday, 7 August, to pay their affiliation fees.

According to the one of the organizers of the tournament, Mr Neo Mutshauba, the registration window opened yesterday (Thursday). This year’s tournament will be staged at the Makuya Try Again grounds on Friday and Saturday next week, 9 and 10 August.

Mutshauba stated that only teams based within Vhembe District could take part in the tournament, irrespective of the division they were campaigning in.  As usual, eight teams will take part in the tournament. This year’s affiliation fee has been increased to R500.

The quarter-final matches will be played on Friday, while the semi-final and final will be played on Saturday.

 According to Mutshauba, this year’s champions will take home R5 000 and gold medals. The runners-up will receive R3 500 and silver medals. The teams that lose in the semi-final stage will each receive a consolation prize of R1 500.

Mutshauba further stated that the toss for the quarter-final matches would be conducted during a meeting to be held at the Makuya Police Station next Wednesday, 7 August. The toss for the semi-final matches will be conducted at the grounds after the last quarter-final match on Friday.

Sambandou United Professionals are the defending champions. They beat Makuya Try Again 3-0 in the final last year.
